3. Briefly report how the school is implementing the 2009-2010 Academic School Plan and how the School LAND Trust money is being spent.
The Wahlquist Junior High School Improvement Plan addresses the improvement of standardized test scores in math and language arts through the improvement of academic skills and student success in the areas of numeracy and literacy. A second goal is to enhance learning opportunities through the access to technology school wide. A third goal includes teacher training. School LAND Trust money has been spent in pursuit of these goals in the following areas:
• Lease purchase of 35 computers to furnish new computer lab for student/classroom use
• Purchase, installation and support equipment for LCD projectors, document cameras, mimeo systems, and calculators
• Purchase equipment (audio) and support materials (student books/materials, teacher manual) for Read 180 class and remedial English classes, and classroom sets of novels to enhance reading opportunities/skills in English classes; purchase Accelerated Reading Tests to support daily reading program.
• Implementation of summer school math and English classes
• Hire math aide to staff math labs
• Hire after-school math tutors
• Provide opportunities for outside training, conference attendance and collaboration time for teachers
